Interoperability as Key to Successful NFC Deployment
The success of contactless payments and the acceptance by the general public requires a reliable system. It simply needs to work as reliable as cash and needs to be more convenient. So we need to ensure that all payment devices work with all payment terminals when the customer wants to use them.
The interoperability test done show how it is ensured that EMV contactless payment systems based on NFC technology really work for the consumer's satisfaction and how to get from typical 50% to >99%. Ensuring interoperability is essential for systems which rely on the communication of various parties based on standardized protocols. Such systems typically consist of various products supplied by multiple vendors.
In recent years interoperability testing has become attractive in many industries to ensure best compatibility in multi-vendor environments. ETSI (European Telecommunication Standards Institute) is a world leader in development and application of testing methodologies.
The presenter already conducted multiple interoperabity tests for ETSI and now applies it for NFC. The presentation will report how the various devices like POS terminals, NFC enabled mobiles, NFC chipsets and secure elements are tested for interoperability. It shows where we are in respect to real consumer satisfaction and buy-in. It will also highlight the current issue and what work needs to be done to get adoption.
