As the famous ESA mission Rosetta was successfully completed on September 30, 2016 (the media reported extensively), the employees of the Seibersdorf Labor GmbH also watched with excitement.
Seibersdorfer experts were involved in the developments for Rosetta, at that time still under the firm of the predecessor company Austrian Research Centers Seibersdorf.
ARC has worked specially on two devices on Rosetta and used its own developments:
- COSIMA: For the investigation of the comet dust COSIMA (Cometary Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer) with a mass spectrometer determined the frequencies of elements, isotopes and molecules.
- MIDAS: The high-resolution scanning probe microscope MIDAS (Micro-Imaging Dust Analysis System) formed the fine structure of individual dust particles.
By the way, Rosetta was named after the Egyptian harbor city. The famous stone of Rosetta made it possible to decipher the hieroglyphic script.
